Now before you start stuffing yourselves with all the holiday goodies Noche Buena has to offer, it might interest you to know that there’s a quick 5-minute routine that you can do that can speed up your metabolism and get your muscles working so that when you do eat that big calorie dense meal, rather than most of it being converted to fat stores, at least some are shuttled directly towards muscle regeneration.
All you really need is 5 minutes within 30 mins before your family meal. And if your family’s like mine, then maybe you can even all do it together.
30-20-10 Christmas countdown
30 Air Squats -Stand with arms straight out in front of you. Squat down, pushing your hips out away from you and going as low as you can without lifting your heels and breaking the knee and foot alignment. Do 30 reps at the pace you’re comfortable with.
20 Push ups – Go on a high plank position with hips shoulders, knees and ankles aligned. Go down by bending your elbows at 90 degrees and explosively push back up. Do 20 reps. If too hard, try from the kneeling position (last picture).
10 Burpees – of course Christmas wouldn’t be the same without Burpees! Drop down and touch the floor, kick your feet out and do a push up then kick your feet back forward and stand up. Y0u can also add a jump here.
